A community in
Israel established by and for Jews (the majority were established by members of Zionist Youth Movements) and based on socialist ideals. Members have no private property, but share the work and the profits of collective enterprise, historically agricultural and, in recent decades, also industrial. The first Kibbutz was founded on the banks of the
Sea of Galilee in 1910. The Kibbutz movement has been in decline in the last few decades, and many Kibbutzim (plural for Kibbutz) any have become privatized. See "
