“Naila and the Uprising”: The Enduring Power of Women’s Leadership in Palestinian Resistance Movements
Join Just Vision for a special virtual screening and discussion of its documentary Naila and the Uprising, which chronicles the role of women in Palestinian resistance during the First Intifada. Through the remarkable story of Naila Ayesh and the clandestine network of women who led the largest nonviolent mobilization in Palestinian history, the film sheds light on the impact of women’s leadership in movements for justice. At a time when Palestinian women are once again at the forefront—organizing mutual aid, sustaining their communities, and leading resistance efforts amid a genocide in Gaza—this conversation will explore their continued struggle and resilience.
The event will take place on Thursday, March 27, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM ET. Upon registering, attendees will receive early access to stream the film ahead of a live panel discussion with the filmmakers. The conversation will feature Suhad Babaa, Just Vision’s Executive Director and Executive Producer of the film, Rula Salameh, journalist, Just Vision’s Education and Outreach Director, and Producer of Naila and the Uprising, and Julia Bacha, the film’s Director and Just Vision’s Creative Director.
This timely discussion will reflect on the organizing strategies and lessons learned from Palestinian women during the First Intifada.
