In Context Briefing: The West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Fragmentation of Palestinian Life
For decades, Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem have lived under a system of Israeli control widely recognized as illegal under international law, characterized by land confiscation, settlement expansion, military operations, movement restrictions, settler violence, and restrictions on freedom of speech that shapes nearly every aspect of civilian life.
Since October 2023, these dynamics have accelerated significantly. Demolitions and settler attacks backed by the Israeli military have displaced families, while checkpoints, road closures, and permit restrictions limit access to work, schools, hospitals, and farmland. Repression of speech has also escalated, with Palestinians facing surveillance, arrest, and prosecution over social media activity. In East Jerusalem, Palestinians also face residency revocations and restrictions on Palestinian institutions and public life.
Join us on Monday, November 9, at 11:00 am ET / 6:00 pm Jerusalem time for The West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Fragmentation of Palestinian Life. Bringing together on-the-ground reporting from journalists, humanitarian analysis, and Palestinian grassroots organizing perspectives, the conversation will connect the emerging election results from Israel’s October 27 elections to their potential consequences for daily life. Panelists will also explore how communities are organizing to sustain their livelihoods and presence across the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The briefing will be a live dialogue moderated by Daniel Nerenberg, Just Vision’s Education and Communications Specialist, featuring the following speakers:
- Shatha Yaish, West Bank Reporter, +972 Magazine
- Oren Ziv, Staff Reporter at +972 Magazine and Local Call
- Dr. Hadeel Qazzaz, Oxfam Palestine Country Director
