Join us for the premiere of Severed, a new film about Gaza.
Severed tells the story of Mohamad Saleh, an 18-year-old from Gaza who has lived through five major assaults on the Gaza Strip. In those attacks, he lost his home, family members, his best friends, and, at the age of 12, his leg. Now living in exile in Egypt, Mohamad struggles to piece together the shattered fragments of his life. Through his eyes, the pain and trauma endured by thousands in Gaza are laid bare, alongside their remarkable strength, resilience, and determination to live.
Severed is produced by Donkeysaddle Projects, +972 Magazine and The Nation, in partnership with Just Vision.
Panel discussion with the filmmakers will follow, including the film's protagonist, Mohamad Saleh, film director, Jen Marlowe, and Donkeysaddle Projects Palestine Grassroots Distribution Project Director and journalist from Gaza, Fadi Abushammalah.
Masks are required for this event, and will be provided for those who do not have their own.
Tickets are free, though donations are welcome. Proceeds will support Donkeysaddle’s Palestine Grassroots Distribution Project (PGDP).

Recent investigations have exposed the extent to which the Israeli military is relying on services provided by Google, Microsoft, and Amazon to conduct its onslaught on Gaza. It’s becoming increasingly clear that the world’s most powerful private U.S. technology companies are complicit in genocide by enabling the Israeli military to manage and analyze vast amounts of data that influence critical operations. These investigations come amidst growing protests by cloud company employees who fear that the technology they developed has helped Israel commit war crimes.
For investors, the revelations about Google, Amazon, and Microsoft also raise urgent ethical questions — but divesting isn’t always simple. As some of the most widely held and influential companies in the market, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are embedded in index funds, retirement accounts, and endowments. For many values-aligned investors, walking away entirely may not be feasible — making shareholder engagement not just an option, but a necessary strategy for accountability.
The Divest4Pal Working Group is hosting a critical conversation on Wednesday, May 7, at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET for shareholders who hold, or may be exposed to, Google, Amazon, or Microsoft and want to understand how to take action from within.
Whether you’re managing a retirement account, part of a foundation or donor network, or advising others on their investments, this session will help make sense of what’s unfolding in the tech sector and explore ways to respond meaningfully as a shareholder. Speakers will break down recent findings about the complicity of these tech giants, explore how companies like them often evade deep scrutiny in the socially responsible investment community, and introduce the broader trend of “new age militarism” — where corporate technology quietly fuels war, genocide, and authoritarianism. The event will feature the following speakers:
Leena Barakat (Moderator), Executive Director of Women Donors Network
Suhad Babaa, Executive Director of Just Vision and Co-Publisher of Local Call
Dov Baum, Director of the Action Center for Corporate Accountability at the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC)

At a time when Palestinian women are once again at the forefront—organizing mutual aid, sustaining their communities, and leading resistance efforts amid a genocide in Gaza—this conversation will explore their continued struggle and resilience.
The event will take place on Thursday, March 27, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM ET. Earlier this month, a +972 Magazine/Local Call investigation revealed that the Israeli military is using an AI machine called “Lavender” to identify human targets with little to no oversight, intentionally bombing them in their homes alongside civilians. The White House noted that it was examining the contents of the investigation, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed that he was “deeply troubled” by the report, adding “No part of life and death decisions which impact entire families should be delegated to the cold calculation of algorithms.” Revelations such as these are fueling global efforts to halt arms transfers and condition military aid to Israel, with pressure particularly mounting on the U.S. and German governments, which are estimated to supply around 99 percent of the arms imported by Israel.

Gaza is the deadliest place to be a journalist today. More than 75% of journalists killed worldwide in 2023 died during Israel’s assault on Gaza. The Committee to Protect Journalists has expressed concern about the Israeli military’s “apparent pattern of targeting journalists,” and the silencing of Palestinian journalists is not limited to Gaza. In the West Bank, Israel’s jailing of Palestinian journalists has reached an all-time high, tying it with Iran as the sixth worst jailer of journalists globally.
Join us on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 1:00-2:00 p.m. ET, to hear about the latest efforts to hold the Israeli government accountable for its assault on journalists, to consider how this lethal environment for journalists is impacting our ability to understand what’s happening on the ground, and to examine what it says about the future of covering conflict zones safely. We will also discuss the challenges that journalists outside of Gaza are facing as they seek to cover the war accurately and ethically, whether based in the U.S. or within Israel itself.
Our speakers include:
Fadi Abu Shammalah, a Palestinian journalist from Gaza who was recently evacuated with his family to the U.S. via Egypt, and who still has colleagues trying to report what is happening on the ground as Israel closes in on Rafah. He also serves as a Just Vision outreach associate. You can read more about Fadi’s experience in this New York Times op-ed.
Gypsy Guillén Kaiser, advocacy and communications director for the Committee to Protect Journalists, which is investigating and documenting the plight of Palestinian journalists. Their most recent reports are available here.
Haggai Matar, executive director of +972 Magazine, an independent, online, nonprofit magazine run by a group of Palestinian and Israeli journalists. He is also co-director, together with Just Vision's Suhad Babaa, of the Hebrew-language news site Local Call, and serves on the board of the Union of Journalists in Israel.
Karen Attiah, a columnist at The Washington Post who has written and posted extensively about the impact of the current violence on journalists and other civilians (“Where is the outrage over Israel’s killing of journalists in Gaza?”). Karen was the winner of the 2019 George Polk Award as well as the 2019 Journalist of the Year Award from the National Association of Black Journalists. She has been a fierce advocate for accountability and justice since agents of Saudi Arabia killed her late colleague, Saudi-American journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Friday, January 26, was a pivotal day in the ongoing efforts to halt Israel’s destruction of Gaza and its people. The International Court of Justice responded to South Africa’s request for provisional measures in its genocide case against the State of Israel and, in a courtroom on the other side of the Atlantic, plaintiffs testified before a U.S. federal court in the case of Defense for Children International - Palestine v. Biden, a lawsuit against senior Biden administration officials for their failure to prevent, and for their complicity in, the Israeli government’s unfolding genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
Join us Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 10:00 am ET to unpack Friday’s legal proceedings, as well as to hear the latest regarding efforts on Capitol Hill to condition U.S. funding to Israel. We will be taking your questions.

As the environmental movement has built power and used innovative tactics including protest and direct action to advance environmental justice, fossil fuel companies have worked with their allies in the legislature to crack down on protest and silence community members’ voices in what happens to the land and water in their communities. These assaults on protest rights continue to evolve, and it is important that grantmakers understand the latest threats to our grantees. The panel will examine the myriad of ways that fossil fuel companies have worked with lawmakers to crack down on dissent from reclassifying pipelines to critical infrastructure and increasing penalties for protesting at pipeline sites, to funding local police departments along the construction route of a pipeline, to new legislation that would prohibit any state employee or contractor from boycotting fossil fuel companies. The event will feature speakers including Suhad Babaa, Executive Director of Just Vision; Julia Reticker-Flynn, Program Officer at the Piper Fund; and Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, Executive Director of the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund. This event is open to participants of the conference only.
